Not a fan of research?

Defining the problem

Initial Problem

After doing thorough research over different ways people work or study I came to a realization that most people either go to a coffee shop, library or just stay at home which leads to being unproductive.

Why does it matter?

Doing the research made me come to a realization as a student myself of how different working environments affects the amount of productivity, and your ability to complete tasks. Since this affects many people around the world creating something that helps accommodate different working environments for people to be at their best productive state felt like the next best move.

So what is the problem?

Not being able to accommodate for different working environments affects people in negative ways, such as not having projects, assignments, to reports etc., completed. To help resolve the issue La Union Café Y Expresso helps accommodate the working environments for people such as, conference rooms, study rooms, and computer labs.

Research Analysis

There is at least 6 different types of physical environments checklist a workspace should be to help accommodate to help people work in the best possible environments.

Reference is from Indeed article: 5 Types of Work Environments (And How To Find the One for You) by By Jennifer Herrity

Size

“To evaluate the size of your workspace, consider the amount of space you have to move freely, whether you have all the equipment you need nearby and if the area is large enough to accommodate all staff members.”

Layout

“Different layouts can also help accommodate for different and appropriate environments such as, to be a more collaborative environment an open layout may benefit more, while a job that requires discretion would better operate with separate offices or cubicles to ensure privacy.”

Furnishings

“Desks, chairs, conference tables and other workplace furniture can also impact employees on the job. Access to comfortable and adequate seating, clean workspaces and functional desks can ensure indoor workplaces remain efficient. Outdoor workplaces may include comfortable furniture for break times.”

Equipment

“Some roles require special equipment to do their job, and depending on the company, the employer may or may not provide it. Some roles, such as a mechanic, may be required to bring their own set of tools. Indoor office spaces are more likely to provide the necessary equipment, such as computers, printers and other essential technology used on the job.”

Facilities

“Other facilities can influence how you feel physically and mentally during your working life. Being able to take a break or go to the bathroom are essential parts of any productive daily routine, so the location of these facilities can also impact the work environment. Additional facilities such as relaxing spaces can also have a positive influence on employees.”

Location

“Some roles predominantly work inside, some spend most of their working day outside and certain roles may have a mixture of both indoor and outdoor work. Many employers may provide additional facilities or equipment to ensure employees are comfortable while working and productivity is maintained.”

Wireframes

Wireframe Takeaways

After working out the tweaks in the wireframe stages I learned that few parts were misaligned as well as the text wasn’t align. of justified in some areas. But after pointing these things out when it came to prototyping the rest it came really easy since it gave me a better understanding of the formatting of the app.

Prototypes

Prototype Takeaways

After running some user test we came to a realization that some buttons need to be bigger in order to be clickable there were a few set back but problem solved my way through the errors.

What I learned:

This project was something that made me learn a lot about different ways people could be productive. Personally being a student myself I often find myself being the most product in private study rooms but sometimes not even that is enough and so I go to the coffee shop, but sometimes moving locations can also be a hassle so creating this project I really wanted to learn the ways I could help accommodate different working environments in one location. It definitely was a great way to learn about different peoples needs.

Further Development:

With more time and resources I would love to expand the La Union Café Y Expresso mobile app. I would also like to add some kind of rewards program into the system to help encourage users to be productive or even to attract people to come to our location.
